What is Runnin’ to Beat the Blues?

Runnin’ to Beat the Blues is a 5K and 1 Mile run/walk held in Centennial Park every spring.  The event is open to all ages and levels of athletes. Runnin’ emphasizes the importance of proactively caring for one’s mental health through physical activity.

Both courses are USATF certified and the 5K is included in the 2012-13 Nashville Striders Grand Prix Series.

Why should I participate?

  • Physical activity is good for you!  It helps keep your body and mind healthy.  Studies indicate that exercise may help combat depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and other mental health issues.
  • It’s for a good cause! Proceeds from Runnin’ directly support the important work of MHAMT, which is to connect those struggling with mental health problems to available services, provide vital educational and support services for those in Middle Tennessee, and advocate for affordable and accessible mental health care for all.

Where is the race?

The race start and finish is at the Events Shelter in Centennial Park, Nashville. View a map of the course here.

What happens if it rains?

Runnin' to Beat the Blues is a rain or shine event. However, we take your safety seriously and closely monitor severe weather. If the course is determined to be dangerous in the event of severe weather (i.e. lightning, tornados) at the race start time, a call will then be made to delay.

Absolutely! We recommend that very young children be accompanied on the course by a parent. Participants may be any age but anyone particpating must be officially registered. We ask that parents with strollers line up at the back of the line when starting the race. Children should never be left unaccompanied in the registration area.
